In early March, we drove to Las Vegas to see my brother-in-law.
Day 1 is here
After leaving Albuquerque, we drove to
Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona. What a great National Park.
Currently you can't go all the way through the park. We entered from the northern entrance, the Painted Desert side. You can only drive half way towards the southern entrance, the Rainbow Forest side, they are rebuilding three bridges.
The Painted Desert has phenomenal colors. The
Painted Desert Inn is a great 1930's Pueblo Revival Style building. The CCC help rebuild the original building which was built in 1920. The beautiful skylight panels were hand-painted by the CCC workers, designs of prehistoric pottery.

There is a 1932 Studebaker sitting where US 66 used to be, as a tribute to the road.

Our next stop in the park was Blue Mesa, which has vibrant color badlands and equally colorful petrified wood, which is just bizarre.

After leaving the National Park we were on our way to Flagstaff, AZ and Northern Arizona University.
A friend of the family goes there. It is a really nice campus. They have these robot/droids that deliver ordered items to the students.

Our journey for day 2 ends in Las Vegas.
